In June 2016, it was confirmed that Styles had signed a solo recording contract. Later in April 2017, Styles released debut solo single, “Sign of the Times”, and eponymous album on 12 May 2017. The tour was officially announced on 28 April 2017 via Styles’ Twitter account and website. Tickets for the shows went on sale on 5 May 2017. The announced shows were reportedly in high demand with many venues selling out within seconds. Styles posted on his Twitter account that he was overwhelmed with the success of the tour. He also stated he is interested in expanding the tour into 2018.
